                    Trivandrum is a beautiful seaside city of Kerala, which is built on seven hills. The city gets its name from the word, Thiruvanathapuram, meaning the city of Anantha or the abode of the sacred Serpent Anantha on which Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the Hindu trinity reclines. Trivandrum is recognized as an important gateway to the most beautiful state of Kerala. It is an ancient city that offers all the modern facilities to the traveler and is also a center for cultural activities. Besides, it is the capital city of Kerala.

By Air

  Thiruvananthapuram is both a domestic and an International airport with regular flights. The airport is 6 kms from the city.  

By Rail  

  Convenient trains connect Thiruvananthapuram with the rest of the country  

By Road  

  Trivandrum is well connected through roads and can be easily accessed.

Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple  

  This temple is situated near the city bus station at the East Fort. The temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is the landmark of the city. It was renovated by the Maharaja of Travancore in 1733. The temple is a fine specimen of South Indian and Dravidian architecture. Non Hindus are not permitted inside this temple.  

Veli Tourist Village  

  This beautiful picnic spot is situated by the sea side, 9 Km. away from the city. The landscape, gardens and wading pools here are very attractive. There are facilities for boating and water sports in the lake. The boat club at Veli has pedal boats, row boats and motor boats for hire. The youth hostel at Veli provides dormitory type of accommodation.  

Akkulam Lake  

  This lake is situated 3 Km. away from Ullur junction. Boating facilities are provided in the lake. The children's park here is one of the biggest in Kerala.  

Napier Museum  

  It has a good collection of bronzes, historical ornaments, temple chariots and ivory carvings.  

Puttan Malika Palace Museum  

  Built by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Balrama Verma of Travancore, an accomplished poet and musician, the traditional Travancore style museum is made better with its exquisite woodcarvings. There is a priceless art collection among other exhibits and the palace also hosts an annual classical music festival between 27th January and 3rd February  

Sree Chithira Art Gallery  

  This is situated in the Napier Museum grounds. It has a good collection of paintings by Raja Ravi Varma and Roerich, copies of the Rajput, Mughals and Tanjore schools of art and paintings; and of Ajantha and Bagh caves. It includes a collection of eastern paintings from China, Japan, Tibet and Bali.  


  The spacious zoological garden is set among the pleasant surroundings of woodlands and lakes. The garden provides delightful shaded walks for the visitors. You can also have a look at the wide variety of the animals and birds that are housed here. The Reptile House has a collection of snakes worth seeing. The nearby botanical gardens have a large number of trees that can be easily identified by their labels.
