                      Bandipur, regarded as the one of the most famous and the better-managed National Parks of India, is located at about 215 km from Bangalore amidst the towering Western Ghat Mountains on the Mysore-Ooty highway. Bandipur National Park, together with the Madumalai Wildlife Sanctuary of Tamil Nadu in the south, the Nagarhole National Park in the north and the Wynad Sanctuary of Kerala in the southwest, forms the India's biggest biosphere reserve famous as 'Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve'. The Moyar River, which flows through the Park, acts as a boundary between the Park and the Madumalai Wildlife Sanctuary.   Bandipur is well connected to Mysore about 80 km, Bangalore about 215km and about 80 km from Ooty.

 Bandipur National Park  

  Bandipur has a sizeable population of wildlife - elephant, spotted deer and sambar, gaur and flying squirrel, four horned antelope, Nilgiri langur and sloth bear. It is one of the larges habitats in south India for the elephant which may be encountered regularly. The visitors can enjoy the wild life safari tours available in this park. There are three means of transportation that can be utilized for moving around inside the park. The first of the lot is an open van run by the park authorities. This van carries it's own guide who is quite experienced in spotting and identifying wildlife. The second means available are jeep rides that can be booked. Jeep safari is most convenient and widely used safari in Bandipur National Park to explore the exotic beauties of nature. The third one is the elephant safari, the elephant rides are a wonderful way to get a feel of the jungle and view the birdlife.
